How does India make hash?
Making hash, also known as hashish, is a process that involves extracting and concentrating the psychoactive resin from the cannabis plant. The method traditionally used in India, one of the oldest in the world, is both simple and artisanal. It begins with the collection of cannabis plants, specifically the flowering tops where the concentration of resin is highest. These plants are typically grown in regions like the Himalayas, where the natural environment is conducive to cannabis cultivation. Once harvested, the plants are dried.
The next step involves the manual extraction of the resin. In India, this is traditionally done by rubbing the dried cannabis flowers between the hands. This action releases the sticky resin, which accumulates on the hands of the person doing the rubbing. After a significant amount of resin has built up, it is scraped off the hands and compressed into a cohesive mass. This mass, now known as hash or hashish, is often further processed by being pressed into blocks or balls. The colour of the final product can vary from green to brown or black, depending on the specific techniques and cannabis strains used.
